  History
In 1984, Dr. Kehew established a general practice of dentistry at 74 Valley Road in Middletown, R.I., where he continues to practice today. The office has been continually updated since opening and remains a state-of-the-art facility. We offer a comprehensive array of services and are committed to the continual improvement of dental care and to the service of our patients. Our dental practice has changed rapidly and has fully integrated technology, including the use of computers for electronic patient records, intaroral video cameras, all digital panoramic, periapical, and bitewing radiography (which results in a dramatically reduced radiation dose compared to film based systems), fiber optics, radio frequency electrosurgery units, electric handpieces for implantology with sterile water delivery systems, nitrous oxide/oxygen conscious sedation, etc. We have a well equipped dental laboratory on the premises so most denture repairs and emergencies can be treated expeditiously. Also, this allows us more flexibility for complicated restorative care ensuring better service and fewer delays for you. We have a private, paved parking lot at the rear of the building where the entrance is. The office is wheelchair accessible. You will find the waiting room to be homey and comfortable and that we really respect your time. We do our absolute best to be on time for every appointment. You will find we have made a commitment to obtaining the training, instrumentation, technology and facility to deliver an efficient and high quality dental treatment experience to you and your loved ones.

  Philosophy
We never lecture or embarrass our patients, believing it to be counterproductive. Dr. Kehew has always been committed to educating his patients not only about their dental condition but about the many ways there are to solving various dental problems. It is a fact that many patients are not aware that there may be several different ways to treat the same condition. Dr. Kehew believes that every patient should be fully informed of the many different treatment options available for any given condition and their 'pros and cons' before deciding on a particular course of treatment. We have found over the years that this consistently results in satisfied patients. While we recommend comprehensive care for every patient, we are happy to accommodate patients seeking limited care or the treatment of a specific problem. We will never try to 'sell' you anything...besides your own good health! We will respect and maintain your dignity at all times and you will find us to be receptive to your questions.

  Insurance
If you have dental insurance you undoubtedly have questions about how to access your benefits. The first thing you need to determine is whether or not you are in an HMO (health maintenance organization). HMO's require you to go only to their doctors...if you go elsewhere they will not pay your benefits, so check this first. If, like most people, you have private insurance through your employer you can go to any dentist you want to. Your private insurer may encourage you to visit a participating dentist, though. A participating dentist is one who has agreed to a table of maximum allowable charges. Your employer can provide you with a list of participating dentists in your area, however, these lists are often outdated, so here is a list of the insurance companies we participate in:

Aetna Dental Fund
Aetna PPO
Altus Dental Inc.
BXBS of RI or MA
BXBS FEP (Federal Employees Program)
CompBenefits PPO
Delta of RI
Delta USA Preferred
Delta USA Plus Premier
Delta USA PPO
Delta USA Tricare Retirees Program
Guardian
Humana
United Concordia
United Health

If you have private insurance and don't see your company listed here, can you still see Dr. Kehew? Yes! In that case you would be billed for the difference, if any, between what your insurance company pays and Dr. Kehew's fees. As a service to our patients we will estimate your copayments for you. Also, if you need to finance your dental care we accept Visa, Mastercard and CareCredit (see Carecredit.com for details).
